COLT - Computer Lessen

SCCO - Providing non-formal education
COLT is committed to giving children from poor families the opportunity to learn basic computer skills. This programme was made possible through a generous donation of 10 computers by the British Embassy in Phnom Penh. These computers arrived at the school at the end of 2003.

Although we do our best to maintain these computers, the environment of the school - esp. sand, dust and moisture - have a hazardous effect on the equipment. There is a constant need for spare parts, like graphic cards, USB ports and memory chips. At the moment we cannot connect all computers in a network as there are only a few working network cards.

Still, with these limited means, children can learn how a computer works and what you can do with it. The main focus is on typing and word processing. The children are also allowed to play computer games, as through playing they will learn computer skills even faster.

The basic computer training usually takes 3-4 months and is closely linked to COLT's programme of Education and Literacy.
